News
Rescues are the busiest they have ever been, since the 'puppy boom' during Covid-19 households who own a pet rose by 23% with over 7 million people searching for a new pet. Dogs trust reported a 50% rise in abandoned pets between May and July last year with a lot of these dogs being under two years old. People are also surrendering dogs due to the cost of living crisis, finding it hard to feed and medicate their pets. Food banks have acknowledged this and are now providing pet food where possible.
We are currently at our busiest since we started in 1992 with dogs at both HQ and the boarding kennels at Copthorne along with dogs waiting to come into rescue. We have had a number of emergencies come in recently and are doing our best to get them all settled, checked by our vet, vaccinated, neutered and assessed by an independent behaviourist.
